Pullman Regional 2024 Annual Report
Pullman Regional is a community leader in integrated health and healing activities where our values guide and inspire, and science and technology quietly enable people to comfort, encourage, and heal.
A Message from the CEO
I’m filled with gratitude as I reflect on this past year. I am so incredibly proud of the work we have done and the people I work with, and I’m honored to continue building relationships with world-class partners. With trust, transparency and teamwork, we are validating that healthcare in this community can be high quality, personal, affordable and accessible. We experienced significant growth and change in 2024, and I’m so grateful to this community for your trust and support in your hospital. We will continue to pursue exceeding your expectations.
Last fall, we strengthened our partnership with Palouse Medical and welcomed them under the umbrella of Pullman Regional. This move made it easier for patients to access a single electronic medical record, Epic, and helped our community keep exceptional physicians and nurses on the Palouse.
We also broadened our relationship with Washington State University through a commitment to oversee and provide all student-athlete healthcare. Orthopedics surgeons, our Pullman Regional employed sports medicine physicians and mental health providers support our Cougs in competing at an elite level. Additionally, we welcomed three more family medicine physician residents to our Family Medicine Residency Center, where residents learn and practice with our doctors.
Our gastroenterology services also grew last year with the addition of a full time gastroenterologist and nurse practitioner. This addition to Pullman Surgical Associates means less wait time and less travel for patients. We expanded interventional pain management services through an outpatient clinic in partnership with Pullman Anesthesia.
Our lab once again achieved certification from the College of American Pathologists, a testament to our high standards, and our stroke team was recertified as an Acute Stroke Ready facility, meaning we consistently provide quick, safe and life-saving care for stroke patients.
We welcomed new faces to our Board of Commissioners and honored the legacy of Jeannie Eylar, our Chief Clinical Officer, who retired after 34 years. Through this growth and transition, our culture remained strong and our participation in employee feedback avenues increased. Our patient satisfaction scores earned us a top 4 spot as a most recommended hospital in the state of Washington.
These successes are the result of the people who devote their lives to healing. Our journey to the top is not done. We have more work to do in improving access to primary care and making the experience at Pullman Regional Hospital and our clinics simple, exceptional and accessible.
We will start a significant remodel in 2025–the Patient Care Expansion Project–a project that is possible because of the reputation of Pullman Regional, the generosity of many, and the trust you have in us. Thank you for trusting Pullman Regional with your healthcare. It is our pleasure to serve you.
Matt Forge, Chief Executive Officer, Pullman Regional Hospital

Primary Care
A primary care physician is your gateway to healthcare! They take care of the whole patient, in contrast to specialists who focus only on one organ system. If a specialist consultation is needed, primary care doctors help patients determine who to see, and they work to ensure coordinated care between physicians. They are the first stop for all healthcare needs and foster long-term relationships with patients and their families. If you ever need a doctor for an illness, injury, or condition, it’s helpful to already have established care with a physician who knows and understands your health history, family history, and current medications (if any).

Asking For a Friend: UTIs
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are a common affliction, affecting both women and men—although they are more prevalent in women. Unfortunately, many people feel uncomfortable broaching concerns surrounding their urinary health with their primary care providers. Dr. Brenna Harris, Board Certified Family Medicine Physician at Pullman Regional Hospital's Family Medicine Residency Center, hopes to change that.

Inclusive Primary Care
Primary care is a necessary component of wellness. But, those in the LGBTQIA+ community may face challenges finding inclusive primary care. Pullman Regional Hospital works to help these individuals receive the supportive, compassionate care they deserve.
“There are a lot of things in LGBTQIA+ services that are the same as any primary care, which includes preventative routine care, sexual and reproductive health,” explains Dr. Kaz Brodsky, a family medicine physician at Pullman Family Medicine.
Family Medicine Residency Program
At the heart of healthcare are family medicine physicians. These doctors provide comprehensive health care through all stages of life, developing lasting, caring relationships with patients and their families. There is a critical need for family medicine physicians nationwide. The state of Washington is no exception. In rural areas, such as eastern Washington, it's one of the most difficult fields of medicine to recruit and retain physicians. Washington State University's Elson. S. Floyd College of Medicine and Pullman Regional Hospital are partnering to develop a solution by creating a Family Medicine Residency Program based in Pullman, WA.

Managing Fevers
When your child has a fever, it can be a cause for concern. Dr. Methuel Gordon, Pediatrician at Palouse Pediatrics, answers common questions about fevers and offers practical tips on managing a fever at home.
It's important to recognize that a fever "is not an illness but rather a sign or symptom of illness," Dr. Gordon says.

Navigating Seasonal Allergies
Each spring, many families find themselves in the pharmacy aisle, overwhelmed by the myriad of allergy medications. Choosing the right medication can be confusing, but understanding the differences can help you make an informed decision. Dr. Katie Hryniewicz, Pediatrician at Palouse Pediatrics provides her expertise to help you navigate the options and ensure you’re picking the best treatment for your child’s symptoms.

When should I keep my child home from school?
During cold and flu season, children tend to be exposed to more germs, more often. Unfortunately, that means that kids tend to be sicker during this time of year. As a parent, it can be difficult to know when it's best to keep your child home, and when it's safe to send them to school or daycare.
“While it can feel like your child is constantly sick and you may wonder if your child has a problem with their immune system, it’s actually typical for a healthy child to have 10+ episodes of mild illness in a given year,” says Dr. MacKenzie Rinaldi, Pediatrician at Palouse Pediatrics, with Pullman Regional.
Surgery

How to Prepare for a Surgical Consultation
A consultation with a surgeon is the first step in the surgical journey for patients. Dr. Nancy Panko, General Surgeon and Medical Director of Pullman Surgical Associates, conducts surgical consults on a daily basis. She provides a guide for patients on what to expect during a surgery consultation, what to bring, and how to set yourself up for success during the surgical process.
Emergency Medicine

Emergency Room Myths: Debunked
Determining if you, or someone you love, needs emergency medical care can be a highly emotional experience and can lead to lots of questions. Dr. Gregory Wallis, Emergency Medicine Physician at Pullman Regional Hospital’s Emergency Department, sets the record straight by debunking some common misconceptions about receiving emergency medical care.

Judy's Story
It was a normal day at home for Judy Reid. Suddenly, she experienced weakness throughout the left side of her body, causing her to fall into her closet. Her first action? She texted her son, Ryan Graves- who happens to be a Registered Nurse for Pullman Regional Hospital’s Emergency Department.

What happens when you faint?
A fainting spell can be a frightening experience, especially if it’s never happened before. What might cause such an episode? Is it a sign of worse things to come? Dr. Garrett Luettgen, Emergency Medicine Physician at Pullman Regional Hospital's Emergency Department, sheds light on why people faint, what happens when a person faints, and what can be done to mitigate its occurrences.
