Patient Care Expansion Project

Our patient volumes and our region’s population are growing; we have outgrown our physical spaces to provide the 5-star caliber of patient care synonymous with Pullman Regional. Thanks to our generous community's support of a bond measure, our patient care expansion project is a reality. Below, please find project updates to keep all Pullman Regional employees in the know.

 

Project Timeline Overview:

Design & Space Planning

  • Sept – Nov 2023: Large and small group work sessions with employees and architect partners (Design West and SRG Partners) to assess patient flow in the hospital and our clinics. What is it now? What is ideal? Process involving more than 200 people.
  • Nov – Dec 2023: Design West and SRG Partners will develop seven different floorplan (big picture designs) options for hospital and clinics remodel and new construction. 
  • Dec 2023: Approve hospital remodel/expansion "big picture" design.
  • Jan – Mar 2024:  Large and small group work sessions with employees and architects began the week of Jan. 18. Department directors and delegates participated in a series of meetings:
    • Meetings the week of Jan. 18 focused on flow concepts, current model of care and future model of care, patient family perspectives
    • Meetings the week of Feb. 13 reviewed revised space program, revised flow ideas and specific room ideas
    • Meetings the week of Mar. 25 reviewed standard room mock ups, major equipment considerations
  • Feb 2024: Site visits to nearby facilities for information gathering.
  • Mar 2024: Contractor selection process
  • Aril 2024: Bouten Construction joins as project General Contractor / Construction Manager (GC/CM)
  •  May 2024: Updated schematic designs, guided by Functional Space Team (approximately 100 people).
  • Jun 2024: Remodel of former Columbia Bank begins
  • Jul 2024: Space & People Committee develops plans for short and long-term movements in preparation for construction
  • Aug 2024: Palouse Medical integration
  • Sept 2024: Revised schematic designs shared with all staff; includes renderings of exterior Emergency Department entrance
  • Oct 2024: Test samples the pad were drilled to assess to prepare for new construction
  • Nov 2024: Construction to expand ENT practice begins
  • Dec 2024: Patient Accounts teams move into former Columbia Bank bldg.
  • Jan 2025: Value engineering process (aligning budget with project wants and needs)
  • Feb 2025: Schematic Design and Project Timeline revisions

Funding

  • Oct – Nov 2023: Assessed bond rating (A1), rate and term.
  • Dec 2023: Finalized bond rate and term (30 years).
  • Feb 2024: 17th Annual Hospital Gala on Feb. 3 raised $150,000 for the Expansion Project.
  • Jul 2024: Annual Hospital Golf Tournament proceeds will support the Expansion Project.
  • Feb 2025: 18th Annual Hospital Gala on Feb 1

 Contractor & Project Management

  • Oct: Project management firm, Turner & Townsend Heery, supports project application approval with WA State Board.
  • Oct – Dec: Application preparation and submittal.
    • Dec: Application to use General Contractor as Construction Manager approved by the State of WA
  • Jan – March: Contractor selection process.
    • Feb 22: Bouten Construction named project General Contractor as Construction Manager (GC/CM).
  • Apr: Bouten joins design planning sessions as contractor.
  • Summer 2024: Preliminary project cost estimates from contractor.
  • Jan 2025: Value engineering process (aligning budget with project wants and needs)
  • Jul 2025: Permitting completed
  • Sep 2025: Ground breaking
