Emergency Department Remodel Open House at Pullman Regional Hospital

Dec 20, 2016

Pullman Regional Hospital is hosting an open house for the public on Wednesday, January 4 from 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. showcasing its 4,300 square foot remodel designed to enhance medication safety for patients. The tour will feature uninterrupted space created for physicians to review patient records and enter computerized orders. These are critical functions to patient care and performing them in a quiet, private area reduces the chance of error.

Pullman Regional Hospital’s Emergency Department continues to grow with more than 17,000 medications administered each year. This is double the number administered 10 years ago. Pullman Regional Hospital’s medication error rate is well below the national standard of two percent set by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Our goal is to eliminate all medication errors. This concept of uninterrupted space is referred to as a sterile cockpit and is borrowed from the aviation industry in which pilots’ complete focus is on the task of take-off and landing of the plane when under 10,000 feet.
