Preparing for Baby

Preparing for Baby

What You'll Need to Bring

To add to the cozy, home-like atmosphere you want, we encourage you to bring any items that will make your stay more comfortable. Following are a few suggestions:

  • Personal Items: Your favorite pillow, shampoo, soap, cosmetics, curling iron, blow dryer, toothpaste and toothbrush.
  • Baby Clothes: An outfit for baby's first picture and clothes for the baby to wear home along with a baby blanket.
  • Extra Clothes: Include a bathrobe and slippers, or your favorite nightgown.

Caring For Your Baby

Those first few hours with your newborn are a precious time. We want you to have as much quality time with your new baby as you would like, as well as plenty of time to rest. Your baby can be in your room as much as you desire, or in the loving arms of our trusted nursing staff.

Breastfeeding

BirthPlace provides the support you need to make breastfeeding a joyous and rewarding experience. Our nurses provide personal counseling and instruction while you are in the hospital, and our certified lactation consultant provides follow-up counseling after you and your baby go home.

A free individual consultation can be scheduled at our BirthPlace Consultation Office by calling (509) 336-7636, or by calling the BirthPlace at (509) 336-7401 for urgent problems.

We Keep on Caring

When you begin your new family at Pullman Regional Hospital, you become a part of our family. We will be here to answer your questions or just to lend an understanding ear in the weeks and months following your expereince here.

After the birth of your baby, we encourage you to schedule an appointment and participate in our "Caring For Baby" program. The intent of this program is to support new families with their needs as new parents by having a free one-on-one follow-up appointment with the trained nursing staff here at BirthPlace at Pullman Regional.

During this follow up visit, new families can learn about such things as how much weight your baby should gain, how many wet diapers is enough, and a whole host of information on breastfeeding.

While the "Caring For Baby" program allows families to answer questions related to being new parents, it is not intended to take the place of your follow-up visits with your infant's physician or an appointment with Pullman Regional Hospital's certified lactation consultant.

Appointments for "Caring For Baby" are held each Monday from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, and on Thursdays from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. To schedule an appointment, simply call Pullman Regional Hospital's BirthPlace at (509) 336-7401.

In addition, if you have any questions, if you're having difficulty feeding your baby, or become tired or discouraged with the demands of an infant, you can talk with our nurses by calling us anytime at (509) 336-7401.

We also welcome you to join our "New Baby Group" which meets each week to help new parents to work together and share information with other new parents. More information can be obtained by clicking here.
